Born 1978, Sikar, Sohan Jakhar now lives and works in Jaipur, Rajasthan. He has a M.F.A. in Painting from Rajasthan School of Art, Jaipur. His works have been auctioned at the Sotheby - New York for the Indian and South East Asian Art Auction. on the same platform with M.F Husain. His paintings not only represents the Indian cultural heritage but it’s also describes the contemporary, culture, historical and visual culture of a whole nation. His style of painting is a mix of Indian cultural tradition and pop art.
His paintings examines the visual dynamics of the roadside bazaar -
vendors, hawkers and auto rickshaws which dominate busiest urban
landscapes of India. Here, a whole new world of images, sounds and
gestures are evolving and gaining ground. Photographs are digitally
modified and painted on the canvas. The treatment of pictures has a
simplistic approach with layers of vibrant colors expressing a subtle
theater of visual form. The decorative motifs floating in the background
come from the painted fresco on the Havelis (Mansions ) of Shekhavati,
from the native town of the artist.
He has had numerous solo as well as group shows both in India and abroad.
