Yogesh Rawal (b.1954) is from Saurashtra, and graduated from the Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai, in 1978. Soon after he received a scholarship from the French Government to study lithography at the L’ecole National Superieure des Beaux-arts, Paris. And later in 1980 he studied etching at Atelier 17, in Paris. He has won several awards and has exhibited all over India, Europe and the United States. He is proficient in sculpture, print and mixed media. His solo exhibitions include those held at Aicon Gallery, New York, in 2007; Pundole Art Gallery, Mumbai, in 2005; and Admit One Gallery, New York, in 2000. He now lives and works in Mumbai.
Most of his works have evolved from the study of light.“My works stem from personal conversation with myself”- Rawal.
Even though Rawal seems to possess an innate sense of color, his use of pigments is minimal. Viewers will often find his palette monochromatic, or simply reduced to black and white. - Saffronart
